How to Choose Your Hotel in Bagan

  • New Bagan, Old Bagan and Nyuang U, namely the new town, pagoda complex and vibrant villages, the best option is always Old Bagan.
  • The entire pagoda complex is under protection and those hotels by the edge always take the upper hand due to inspiring views.
  • More boutique hotels, and a swimming pool is a must as Bagan can be hot and dry all the time.
  • Not so many upmarket dining options or nightlife in Old Bagan and we suggest hotels with more than one dining venue and some activities (regardless additional charges).

5 Best Hotels in Bagan

Narrowing down to only 5 options is not a piece of cake, no. Hoteliers know their way around the area and their services always go extra mile than merely a place to sleep. Good location and service, plus awesome view (free of charge!) are what we are scaling them by.

Bagan Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort

Not a luxurious option but definitely a winner of value, Bagan Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort enjoys great reviews among travelers who appreciate the nice view of the Irrawaddy River and easy access to the pagoda complex. Cozy rooms are set up in two-storied wooden houses overlooking the river and lovely tropical garden. Situated on the edge of the Bagan plains, its massive and well-tendered lawn is a nice place to view sunset with a cold drink. Large swimming pool, spacious rooms with simple yet good amenities provide all comfort you need for a holiday.

Room of Recommendation:
Premium Suite with River View - 77sqm/829sqf room with separate living room and bedroom, two sinks in the bathroom and a hot tub to relax your body. Private balcony faces towards the river and offers quite moments.

Bagan Thande Hotel

It is definitely not the fanciest hotel in Old Bagan but we would totally give it up to the gorgeous view of the Irrawaddy River. Bagan Thande Hotel is situated by the riverbank and only a few minutes of riding (or less than 20 minutes of walking) to the famous Ananda Pagoda. The outdoor dining area offers great river view and freshly-prepared international buffet breakfast. While the facilities might look a bit dated given it’s served for over 4 years, the staff who are always smiling and helpful really makes it a heart-warming stay (oh but the pool is body-cooling in a hot day).

Room of Recommendation:
Deluxe River View - Only a handful of Deluxe River View Rooms are available during the peak season, all thanks to the awesome view direct to the Irrawaddy River and spacious and fully-equipped in-room facilities.
Address: Near Archeological Museum, Old Bagan, Old Bagan, 11221 Bagan, Myanmar

The Hotel @ Tharabar Gate

Within 5 minutes of walking to the jew of Bagan - Ananda Pagoda, The Hotel @ Tharabar Gate is a time-honored great facility for those who would like to explore Bagan at the easiest pace possible. The hotel is wrapped up by big trees and very quiet from the main street. Two dining options offer European and Asian delicacies as well as cocktail bar by the pool. 84 luxury rooms including 80 deluxe rooms and 4 suites are all in traditional royal Bagan style and feature with a terrace to the verdant tropical garden. Evening entertainment and happy hours cater for a wonderful night.

Amazing Bagan Resort

Yes you will be amazed. Amazing Bagan Resort is nestled in dense woods not far away from the archeological zone. Proudly the winner of Certificate of Excellence for a couple of years on TripAdvisor, it still keeps it up our expectations with personalized service. The entire compound consists of a massive garden, a golf court and rooms and suites in traditional Bagan style. Some resemblance of Bagan’s pagodas, each room is modernly-equipped and very quiet at night. Shwezigon Pagoda and Lemyethna Pagoda can be see afar and it is only a 10-minute walk to the bustling Nyaung Oo Market. The hotel has an interesting puppet show to entertain your kids.

Room of Recommendation:
Amazing Suite - Only 5 units of Amazing Suites, they are set in a row away from the main building, enough privacy. Spacious living room and lounging area measured up to 94sqm/1012sqf comes with a private balcony to the lush garden.

Aureum Palace Hotel & Resort Bagan

Another sparkling gem in Old Bagan, what we fancy about this luxury property is the night view over its infinity pool towards the illuminated pagodas. Aureum Palace Hotel & Resort was designed for more sophisticated travelers who appreciate nicer things during travel: well-appointed rooms in classic decoration, down-to-detail services and great choice of food and drinks at its restaurant and bar. Their aroma spa treatment is also a must-try experience.

Room of Recommendation:
Lotus Villa - Recently upgraded with better bathroom facilities, the 90sqm/967sqf room is built with hardwood in the lush garden, very quiet and great view from the balcony.
